What is an auto transport BOL?
A Bill of Lading (BOL) is the contract of carriage for a vehicle shipment. In auto transport it is created when the carrier picks the vehicle up: the driver or dispatcher records the vehicle, both parties sign it, and it stays with the load until delivery. The customer gets a copy at pickup and a signed copy again at delivery, which is why a clean, professional-looking BOL matters — it is often the only branded document your customer ever sees.
What goes on an auto transport BOL
Most car-hauling BOLs contain the same core fields:
- Vehicle details — year, make, model, color, VIN
- Pickup and delivery addresses with dates or time windows
